Supernatural creator apologizes for spin-off spat: "I assumed Jared knew."

The creator of Supernatural, Eric Kripke, addressed the recent drama surrounding Jensen Ackles' prequel spin-off series, saying he has apologized to Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki.

Last week, Jensen announced he was developing a prequel show named The Winchesters, which would revolve around John and Mary Winchester. The show would be told from Dean's perspective, with Jensen returning as the narrator. The one-hour drama will be produced by Chaos Machine Productions, the production banner of Jensen and his wife Danneel Ackles, through their overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.

However, the news took Padalecki by surprise, who tweeted he was "gutted" to have no involvement in the project.

Digital Spy reports that Kripke tweeted that he "loved" the concept of the show and described Jensen, Danneel Ackles, and Supernatural producer Robbie Thompson as "the perfect people to make it."

He wrote in a now-deleted tweet:

"Guys. When I wrote this, I assumed Jared knew. I was wrong. I already apologized to him & @jarpad & @JensenAckles worked it out. I love them both like brothers, both equally contributed to #SPN. Families have bumps, they overcome them, that's why they're family. #SPNFamily"

Since Padalecki's original tweets, the star shared that he and Jensen "had a great talk."

He added:

"Things are good. The show is early in the process with miles to go. We've travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don't stop us."

Jensen said:

"Love you @jarpad… Miss these talks. I forgot how much face time we always used to get. And I miss that too. I know you're busy... as am I, but you're still my brother."

The spin-off currently has a script commitment with The CW.

The CW television series Supernatural (2005-2020) follows brothers Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) as they hunt all manner of supernatural beings, including monsters, ghosts, demons, and more. Years ago, Sam and Dean lost their mother to a mysterious force. In the years since, their father taught them about the paranormal evil that lives on the back roads of America—and how to kill it.
