True Blood Reboot Still in Early Stages
There's a True Blood Series in the works, but HBO is taking its time
HBO’s Casey Bloys told TV Line that a reboot of True Blood—presumably with an all-new cast—is in the works, but a long way away from a production.
With so many fans of the original show, itself based on the beloved book series Southern Vampire Mysteries from author Charlaine Harris, they’re likely taking it slowly to make sure everybody is happy.
Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre is attached to lead the project, while the original series creator, Alan Ball, is reportedly considered to return as an exec producer.
The original HBO series True Blood revolved around telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse (portrayed by Anna Paquin), whose world changes when she meets a southern Louisiana gentleman and vampire named Bill Compton (played by Stephen Moyer).
The author Charlaine Harris explained what made her approach to vampires unique: “I think of them as adventure novels. Maybe the difference in my approach is the humor, and the fact that my protagonist has no increasing supernatural powers and has trouble paying her bills. (The telepathy? It's up in the air in the books as to where that came from.)”
