Frankenstein vs Wolf Man: Fight Scene

“More a werewolf film than a Frankenstein one, this atmospheric B-movie is still a lot of fun.”—Dennis Schwartz

1943’s Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man stars Bela Lugosi as Frankenstein’s monster, and Lon Chaney Jr. as Larry Talbot, the Wolf Man. The film is a sequel to both The Ghost of Frankenstein and The Wolf Man. Set four years after Larry Talbot’s apparent death, Talbot is revived when his tomb is disturbed. His search for a way to end his seeming immortality leads to his befriending Frankenstein’s monster. The cast also includes Ilona Massey, Patric Knowles, Lionel Atwill, and Maria Ouspenskaya.

The script as originally filmed had the monster speaking dialogue—which, based on the brain operation at the end of The Ghost of Frankenstein, included Lugosi’s thick Hungarian accent. However, apparently test audiences laughed at Lugosi’s speech, so they edited out all the lines. Because of the operation, the monster was also blind, which was also removed—meaning that viewers had no explanation for Lugosi’s walking with his arms outstretched like a sleepwalker.
