Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror: The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore [Spotlight]
A hilariously deranged tale of Santa, fruitcakes, angels, and Kung Fu…
“Christopher Moore writes novels that are not only hilarious, but fun to read as well. He is an author at the top of his craft.”—Nicholas Sparks
’Twas the night before Christmas—and all through Pine Cove, Florida, the creatures were stirring in this wonderfully funny tale that gives the spirit of Christmas a whole new meaning. Christopher Moore’s 2004 novel The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, the third book in his series of books set in the town of Pine Cove, brings together several characters from his previous books.
An angel named Raziel (previously seen in the author’s novel Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal) is sent to Earth to grant the wish of a boy who witnessed the death of a man dressed as Santa Claus. As the town sets up a community meal, the angel—clumsily bringing “Santa” back to life—accidently causes the townspeople to fall prey to all the zombies climbing out of the nearby cemetery.

Interview
“Actually taking the step to write a Christmas book is just as crass as you might guess,” Moore told Ingram in an interview. “It started as a suggestion by one of the national sales reps…who thought my goofy sense of humor would work in a Christmas story. I thought it would be a great way to reach a wider audience than my other books, to expose people to my sense of humor and see if it clicks.”
Reviews
'You’ll laugh your head off. Grade: A.” (Rocky Mountain News)
Hilarity abounds in Moore's latest satirical gem. This little slice of perverse Christmas cheer is enough to make even the most cynical Scrooge guffaw. (Publishers Weekly)
With all things being considered, The Stupidest Angel is very much a worthy addition to the Pine Cove series and I believe is a good introduction to Christopher Moore for those who haven’t had a chance to get acquainted with him yet. I highly recommend The Stupidest Angel if you’re looking to embark on a roller-coaster into the domain of surreal comedy. (Bookwormex)
