Rocketman vs Starman: Elton John tribute to David Bowie

Elton John and David Bowie started out as good friends, but it didn’t last.

Apparently, the two had an on-again, off-again friendship.

Over the years, Elton John and David Bowie would hang out—but that didn’t last. Elton John commented, “I think we just drifted apart.… David and I were not the best of friends toward the end.” (Far Out)

During a concert following Bowie’s death, Sir Elton John paid tribute, sharing how “Rocketman” was connected to Bowie. John then kicked into a piano introduction that touched on the chord progressions for “Space Oddity,” before kicking into a live version of his own classic “Rocketman.”
