Santa vs Martians: That time Santa Claus fought aliens from Mars—watch it now!

“All this trouble over a fat little man in a red suit!”

Often hailed as a really terrible movie, the 1964 film Santa Claus Conquers the Martians actually carries a weird kind of charm that beckons me. Perhaps this is because when I was a kid, some local TV channel would play the film at midnight every Christmas Eve.

Others would recommend watching the film with either the Mystery Science Theater 3000 or Cinematic Titanic hecklers. (Granted, I’ve enjoyed both of those, too.)

In Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, leaders on Mars are worried about the mental states of their children—but when they consult an ancient sage, he claims that the children of Mars are unable to live a normal childhood.

When they agree that Earth’s Santa Claus plays an important part in a child’s life, the plan then is to travel to Earth and bring back Santa to fix the Martian youngsters’ mental conditions. Of course, one of the Martian leaders has darker plans…
